Printmaking with Styrofoam

Grade Level: 4th+

Materials

  • white construction paper (I used 9″ x 12″ in the example)
  • tempera paint
  • styrofoam squares
    • I suggest collecting these from students.  Ask parents to send in clean styrofoam trays or containers.  Then cut them into 4-5″ squares.
  • rubber brayer or sponge
  • dull pencil for carving

Steps

  1. Students should carve a design in the styrofoam square by pressing the dull pencil into the smooth side of the styrofoam. Remind students that writing words or letters won’t work.
